June 2, 2013 will be remembered as beautiful day which lived up to expectations ó with over 300 supporters and friends of Participation House came together to have fun, enjoy a delicious meal, bowl and fundraise! And fundraise we did, a grand total of over $27,000!
2013 has brought the opening of our newest building project, a four unit model showcasing the latest accessibly options, already home to 7 special individuals. All proceeds of the 13th Annual Bowl-A-Thon were directed towards this exciting project. Foundation President, Gary Jazey, welcomed everyone to the event, with long time agency supporter Chris Bentley rolling the first ceremonial ball. Brian Dunne, Executive Director and Maria Sinosic, Support Services Board President were in good company amongst the many members of both Boards present for the fun.
The big winners of the day were the bowlers who raised the highest amounts in pledges for their teams this saw a record fourth time running winner Christine Holmes and the Millridge team in the Adult Category, with Ellie MacQueen claiming victory in the Child Category! MC Ali Radomsky kept the party going, with his energetic presence and upbeat MC-ing, while Jeanette Fletcher made the rounds with her camera, capturing the day and the many faces of delight, as prizes and raffles were announced and bowling balls went rolling down the lanes.
The River Room and North Moore Catering catered to all teams and guests with a delicious deconstructed chicken pot pie and freshly baked pastry. Dairy Queen at Fleetway provided drinks to accompany the meal and keep everyone refreshed during the afternoon. Volunteers were easily spotted in their red shirts always ready to lend a hand. For the third year running Allison Eaton and Leslie Giesbrecht organized the Spikes Volleyball tournament in March, with proceeds going to the Bowl-A-Thon a great time had by all raising nearly $1000 in just an evening!
