Participation House realizes people with disabilities have special needs when it comes to their home environment. At Participation House we make each house accessible for those who live there. This means some homes need ramps, ceiling lifts, raised bathtubs, and walk-in showers to ensure they are safe and comfortable while others require less extensive modifications.
A home supporting individuals in wheelchairs requires some changes to make life as accessible and independent as possible for the residents. These changes can include modifying the kitchen sink height so it can be reached from a sitting position or making the hallways wide enough to accommodate an electric wheelchair.
Our support workers use technology to help people move from one place to another. Portable lifts make it possible for people to move from their wheelchair to a couch or comfortable reclining chair.
Project Hope Help with Opportunities for Participation and Enrichment is a full-day program for young adults who are living at home with their families, who have recently graduated from high school and who because of their complex/high needs are unable to access existing community programs/supports or services.
There are 12 day program spaces available in London. The program is free to participants and is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
